ReRentalAlert

How to apply fast when a unit posts

You got the alert. Turn it into a submitted application without losing time.

In the first hour

  1. Open the official source link in the alert, not just our listing page. The official posting is the authority on how to apply.
  2. Read the whole posting. Note the application method (online portal, email, or in person), the deadline, the income range for your household size, and any asset limits.
  3. Confirm you fit the basics. Household size and income range are the first filters. If you're clearly outside the range, don't burn time. Save your energy for the next alert.

Submitting

  1. Apply exactly as instructed. If it says apply through NYC Housing Connect, do that. If it says email the marketing agent, email them, with the subject line and information they ask for.
  2. Attach documents the same day if you can. You prepared them already (see our documents guide). A complete application beats a fast-but-incomplete one that needs follow-ups.
  3. Keep copies of everything. The application, the confirmation, every email. Note dates.

After you apply

  1. Expect silence. Review can take weeks or months. "No news" usually just means the queue is long.
  2. Respond to document requests immediately. This is where having your folder ready pays off.
  3. Keep your contact info current with the marketing agent. A missed call can mean a missed unit.
  4. Keep looking. Apply to every unit you qualify for. One application is a lottery ticket; ten is a strategy.

What not to do

  • Don't pay anyone to apply, to "move you up," or to guarantee a unit. Applying is free.
  • Don't submit false income or household information. Verification is real, and getting caught disqualifies you.
  • Don't assume our alert is the official posting. Always work from the official source link.

Frequently asked questions

What do I do in the first hour after a re-rental alert?

Open the official source link in the alert, read the whole posting (method, deadline, income range, asset limits), and confirm you fit the household size and income range before spending time.

Should I attach my documents right away?

Yes, the same day if you can. A complete application beats a fast-but-incomplete one that needs follow-ups.

What should I never do when applying?

Never pay anyone to apply or to move you up. Never submit false income or household information. And never treat the alert as the official posting: always work from the official source link.

How long until I hear back after applying?

Review can take weeks or months, and no news usually just means the queue is long. Respond to document requests immediately and keep your contact info current with the marketing agent.
